I know that this has nothing to do with reenacting, that this event would be know as a “FARB” event. Unlike some other “Farb” events this event is worth your money considering the amount of entertainment, food, and shops you get for your money.
On an unusually hot September day I spent the whole day at MD Renaissance faire. This is my first time back from going to the festival after taking a 2 year break from it. The past two season I went to the Pennsylvania Renaissance faire. I only go once every season, because it gets a little expensive if you go every weekend when the festival is open. It hasn’t changed much, but I did noticed that they created a new building where the mud pit used to be. I was shocked that I new the place pretty well and only got lost once. There were so many shows I wanted to see so I didn’t really have any time to look at any of the shops. Which is a good thing I guess, when you’re not making any money.
I went to see “The Pyrates Royale“ who I have seen in years past. And they still sing some of the same old songs, but they put maybe 2 new songs that I never heard them sing before.
The “O’Danny Girls“ which was the first time for me to watch their act. It’s a show I wouldn’t let any children see them though. “Wolgemut“ is a German band that is made up of mostly drums, and a few wind instruments. Great music, and a new twist to the normal scheduling of watching the Rogues for the 30th time.
“Albannach” is actually from Scotland, and this is the second time they have performed at the Maryland Renaissance festival. I missed it last year, so I was glad I got the chance to hear their music live. Sounds a whole lot better than what is online. I think they perform better live, than listening to their cd.
“Hack & Slash“ are one of the shows I used to see all the time. Went to see it again since I was with someone who had never seen their show. And I’ve been away for two years, and you would think that they would have some new material. Nope they haven’t change a bit.
“Jousting” is always entertaining, and it is extra special since the Maryland sport is jousting. Luckily no one fell off the horse this time. Last time I went, a jouster actually fell off his horse. I only watched like five minutes of the caber toss, then I set off to watch what the “Rogues” were up too. Heard them in the background could resist seeing what they were up too. Pretty much the same old stuff, but they did play one or two new song. But really couldn’t tell since all their songs sound alike. Especially the new songs from their two newest cds.
“Don Juan & Miguel” I’ve missed twice upon going to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Festival. So I figured since l was there I should at least watch a few minutes of their show.
“A Fool Named O” is a mime, but it ended up being very entertaining. Only because we sat right in back of a group of women. And they were laughing, it just made the whole show more interactive.
“Hey Nunnie Nunnie” if you know anything about the reign of Henry VIII you know being a Catholic nun was very dangerous. Hey nuns can have a sense of humor. If you never read a Christian bible at all you probably wouldn’t have got most of the jokes.
I saw another show called the “London Boil“. But being the last show their wasn’t any story line therefore there wasn’t any structure. No juggling fire, or swords. Just average. Not “Barely Balanced“. Something I wouldn’t want to see a second time. By the time the day ended I was tired, but it ended up being fun.
I’ve checked and all the shows you can watch on “You Tube“. The downfall for all Renaissance Faire entertainers is that you can watch their shows online.

I have been to the Ohio Renaissance Faire in Harveysburg and it is great too. Also, we have a new and up and coming RenFaire near Louisville in Eminence, KY. Look up their website. KYRenFaire
